Kelly belongs to an Irish Catholic family. She is the third of six children of her parents who are Irish immigrants. Her father, Peter, was trained as a concert violinist while her mother, Anne, is a nurse. As influenced by her father Moira has become an accomplished violinist, drummer, and flutist. She competed in Opera while in high school. She finished high school at the Connetquot Senior High School in 1986. Moira attended Marymount Manhattan College in New York City. After getting that her parents can’t afford to send all 6 children to school, she had different jobs as a waitress, a nanny. Director Eric Martinsen chose to recast Moira as Grace Farrell. After getting this role she began her acting career. She currently plays Karen Roe on ‘One Tree Hill’.
